SIEVWRIGHT BROS & CO

LAND, ESTATE, AND COMMISSION

AGENTS, AUCTIONEERS, Ai\D SHAREBROKERS.

Financially as well as commercially Dunediu is in a highly healthy and no liner example of tile moncv'held by tho general people could be desired i.han the

amount of capital subscribed in the. flotation of gold dredging companies. Within 15 mouths dredging companies of a capital of over a million pounds have been iioated ;-n Otago,. while considerable sums have besn constantly changing hands on the Dunedin Stock' Exchange and iv the land market. Dunedin, it lniirht. safely bo saidj was never in a more flourishing coi;dit:oii. 'There is a good demand ior livid, whether rural or town, and during the last few years there h.us been a gradual rise in bolh. Perhaps, however, the best prom* <.•!' tin condition of a city is to be found in lhe. number of houses eceuiiisd and unoccupied, .and in Inis connection it can be pointed out that the legend " To let " is now almost unknown in Dunedin, the demand as a rule being greater than the supply.

Of .firms largely engaged in the various departments thus affected is Messrs Sievwright Bros, and Co., land, estate, and commission agents, auctioneer:*, and snarebrokers. The' interests of this firm are very substantial, and through their oilices have passed during the recant- developments rm enormous amount of capital, lhe business, which is owned by Messrs George and Neville Sievwright', w-as established about 10 years. a<o, Imd within tho intervening period has taken a lu'ni hold. The offices ■ are situated at 14 High street, and are reached through a wide hallway. Surrounding an aiiction l-OBin of 40 square feet, supplied with a rostrum,. tables, etc., are the .clerical departments and the private offices of the members of the firm. In the auction room sales are. conducted, sometimes several times a vi'sck, of laud and real estate, and so well known lias become till is branch of the Jinn Hint these saies are attended by terge numbers of people interested in "lauded matters. As land agents Messrs Sievwright .Bros, and Co. have one of the largest connections in Dunedin. Each partaer has an intimate knowledge of such interests, with alt their technical and practical ramifica-t-iuns, and as the firm are known for the straightforward methods and principles which, they have adopted in business -they are repaired to with every- confidence by the public. The ' same applies to commission aspney, in which. Sievwriiiht Bros, and Co do" v ]ar«e amount of work, and every confidence Is placed m them. They are hotel brokers, and side, by side with their wide range of information on land matters is their knowledge of this branch. They are able to transact this somewhat uifiieult work wiiu the utmost satisfaction, and as a- consequence they do by far the largest busmen of the kind in the city. As shsrebrokers the firm have a seat on the jDuuidin Slock .Exchange, where their o»er:itions «ri extensive. Here as in the other branches of their business their quality of reliability ensures their relainin^' general confidence, and the annual turnover of shares would come to a. big total. >S:cvwri>'hfc Bros, and Co. have taken a very active part in fostering and serving the gold dredging industry, in ■which they are very considerably interested. A good]-/ number of companies have been iioated by them, and prospectuses issued from their otlices are accepted wit-h eagerness. Amimp other mining concerns of which they have partially or wholly undertaken tlis'flota-tion'are such companies as the Cromwell. Ma"iie<ic Vincent. Electric Extended, ' Kawarau Bridge, Arrow Junction, StiHwater Creek, and Ciaughesy'.s Freehold (Wes-l, Coast).' and many others. That the firm have confidence in their flotations is proved by the fact that they retain interests in all these comvjiinics.

Both members of the firm are natives of Dmiedin, and arc sons of Mr B. Sievwright, still in active practice in this city as a ba-i-rister and solicitor. They were educated first at the" local High. School, and .afterwards at Scots College,' Melbourne.. -Mr U. Siev.wright applied himself to study law, and after qualifying a-s a solicitor practised for some years. Mr Is'eville Sicvwright has always been associated wit-h his present class of -busines,?, and was eventually joined therein by his brother. They make a very strong combination ; both patronise athletics. The Dunedin Commercial Review would hardly be complete without mention of a, representative firm of this description, and hence the choice of Messrs Sievwright Bros, and Co. As well" for the extent, of their connection, the ramifications of their interests, the large amount of capital they represent, and the trustworthiness of their methods 110 better selection could have been made.
