WEST HARBOUR.
•The monthly meeting of the AVest HarbbUi. Borough Council was held last night. . There were present—The Mayor.(Mr Mbller), Crs'Lte nach, Hunter, Duncan, Cray,.O'Donnell, Chisholm, Sankey, Barker, Biniiie, arid Keilett. . ; _The Works Committee reported that they had visited A,anuka street to inspect the proposed zig-zag: - They found the roadway, with the exceptionof the part occupied by. thb present' footpath, covered with broorii and iriariuka scrub, which would have to be cleared before the contemplated zig-zag could be constructed. Another and more serious iihpedirnent was a drain varying in depth from 12in to 3ft, which ran down and crossed the street. This would have to be filled up, and the water. diverted eisewhere. The totnl cost of the work would be £10 13s.—The report was discussed atiength, and the opmon of the majority being that the council could not- afford to do the-work just then, the report was ordered-to stand, over until next meeting. , Mr J. Malone3', Burkes, wrote requesting the council to repair the road leading to his hbiise. It was impassable for -vehicles.—Receiyed. ; Aii application from Mr N.. M'Culloch for 4 reduction of rates was grarited. '
