VOLUNTEERS.

; The annual meeting of the Dunedin Engineer Volunteers took place at the Gnrrison Hall on! Wednesday evening. Captain Barclay occupied, the chair, and there was a very large"attendonce of members. The annual report, and balance' sheet presented to the meeting showed that the. corps was in a good financial position, and had made excellent progress during.the past -12 months. The Chairman in the course of somo remarks took occasion to congratulate Sergeant Tonkin upon winning.the medal for the beat' shot in the district. Sergeant Tonkin had been a consistent shot, and his success was well deserved. The question of working or fatigue uniform would require to be decided very shortly. A sample uniform of khaki drill had been prepared by. Messrs Hallenstein Bros.and" Co., and was now submitted for inspection. It appeared to be of a serviceable nature, andlikely, to answer the purpose required. The various classes for special instruction had been well attended during the past year. During the forthcoming year instruction classes would be started for photography, military field sketch-, ing, and telegraphy. At the present time there were numerous applications for admittance to the ranks of the company, between 30 and 40 names being registered, amongst the number being a good many ex-members.' The following were re-elected to their respective positions: — Treasurer, Sergeant Lacey; secretary, Engineer' M'Neil, assistant secretary, Corporal .Jacobs. Sergeant Bryant and Corporal Flynn were appointed to the Finance Committee, and as the result of the ballot the following were elected as members of the General Committee:—Ser-geant-major Henry, Corporals Dredge and Power, Lance-corporals Miles and Ferguson,, Engineers Bridger and Roach. The Boating Committee was constituted with the non-com-missioned officers of the engineering squad and Engineers Banks, Steele, and Williamson; and the Amusement Committee was formed as follows:—Engineers Bridger, Edgeworth, Evans, Latta, and Roach. Engineer Latta was elected as librarian, and Engineers Hook, Megget, and' Taylor appointed a Library Committee. Lance--corporal Smart was elected as custodian of electrical plant, and Engineers Bridger and Pringle as auditors. Mr H. B. Courtis (hou. member),' who was present, kindly offered to prepare an enlarged portrait of Engineer Hawkcs (now with the second contingent) for the orderly room.
