PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 14. . At to-day's sitting, the Rev. J. K. Elliot* was elected moderator ior the nexb year by the unanimous vote of the house. Th« treasurer's statements showed that all tin funds of the church were in credit. The report of the Church Extension Committee occupied the evening sederunt. , A' considerable advance has been made iv church extension within the bounds. New districts have been. opened up and additional agents have been employed, and the former positions have been held and strengthened. The treasurer reports that large demands have been made upon the funds this year, but the committee,has been able to meet its obligations. The assembly adopted the report, and expressed its gratification at the continued and enlarged interests of the church in this scheme; recorded hearty thanks to the Church of Sootland, the Free Church, and the Irish Presbyterian Church for the generous help given in men and money for our church extension work; expressed a hope that earnest effort will be made in all our congregations to form associations for the purpose of raising funds foi' this scheme; and instructed presbyteries to visit and address congregations in this connection. The committee of the pew century fund reported that, as a result of the visit of the Rev. William Gillies to the. North Island, he has.succeeded in placing close on £4000 on the subscription list. The assembly resolved to appoint a committee to report as to how the fund should be administered, and agreed to calling upon the Revs. William Gillies and James Paterson to devote such portion of time as is foundto be necessary for the raising of the remainder of the £10,000.
