CONCERTS AND SOCIALS.
I The patriotic concert at Outram on Friday j proved a great success. Mr W. Snow was I chairman. The musical part of the programme was carried out by Mrs W. H. Young.' Misses "Wise, Wales, Burt, Saundcrs, and Arthur, and Messrs Bews, Mollison, Irv/in. Jones, Stephenson, and Price. Speeches were made by Messrs J. J. Ramsay, J. M. Gallaway, T. Mackenzie, and W. Carneross. M.H.R. The ladies who got up the concert (Misses Burt and Patrick) desire to thank Messrs Fergusson and Mitchell and J. Wilkie and Co. j for printing and Messrs J. F. Kirby and J. 'A. Park, for flags. Mr F. 0. Fulton, not j being well, wrote a letter to the chairman, ! which it was intended should be read to the j meeting, and enclosing a cheque for £50, but | recovering as the time drew near, attended | and read his own letter. Mr Fulton referred i to the splendid patriotism shown by the colo- ! nies and the sympathy displayed by the j United States. Mr Fulton mentioned that ■ it is now 48 years since he took up his residence at West Taieri, and he had spent there some of the happiest years of his life. Although he had lived for the past 16 years in ■ tho North Island, he was pleased at being amongst them for a visit, and more than : pleased to be enabled to make his contrihu- : tion to swell the, fund they were raising. The i collection, including Mr Fulton's cheque and I tine for £20 from the trustees of the late ! James Fulton, amounted to £95. The sale j of tickets realised £15. I A very successful social and dance was held : on Tuesday evening last at Seaeliff for the ■ purpose of showing practical sympathy with '■ the South African campaign, and resulted in tho raising of nearly £10. There were no ex- ■ penses to deduct, as the members of the committee provided the supper. They have decided to get the sum made up to £10, and hand it over at once to the fund for providing | nurses. During the past week the local com- ! mittee has also collected £-15 to provide a, horse and equipment for a rough rider, and four local men—Messrs Campbell, Diiffey, Findi later, and Murphy—have enrolled their names | for service in the fourth contingent. The ! horse lias been bought, and is to bo named | Seaeliff. and it is left to the authorities to i choose as its rider the most suitable man 1 among the local applicants. Adding the sum i recently contributed to the patriotic fund, | ; Seaeliff has now raised for South Africa over | £110, and has supplied five volunteers for the | front.
