AUSTRALIAN WIDOWS' FUND LIFE ASSURANCE SOCIETY.
Thel annual statement of new business and report of the above society shows that during the, year ended on .the 31st October last 2821 now-policies' wore issued, assuring £578,612 12s, being 744- policies for £132,321- 7s in excess of theprevious year. The new business for the year exceeded that of any year since 1891. The new business for the first three years, of the present quinquennium is as follows: — 1897. 1741 policies for £362,879; 1898, 2077 policies for £446,288 ss; 1899, 2821 policies for £578,612 12s. The premium revenue for the year amounted to £160,819 0s 9d, the interest to £60,853 12s 2d, and the total revenue t0,£224-,181 8s id. The claims by death amounted, with bonuses, to £44,961 12s 2d. and-the actuary reports that the claims which arose by death 'during the year' were only 68.per cent, of the expectancy. The accumulated funds now amount to £1,365,770 2s Bd, having in tho year been increased by the sum of £57,865 10s Bd. The actuary's report is of a very satisfactory character, showing the i surplus for the last three years to be £63,367 1 after providing for the cost of placing the whole of the existing business on a 3£ per cent, basis, instead of a 4 per cent, basis as hitherto.
