J. WILKIE AND COS. EMPLOYEES.

Wilkie and Cos. employees'held their annual picnic on Saturday,' 27th inst., the, spot chosen for the outing being Mr Colehan's paddock, Waitati, which.is ir.ievery way 'suitable for such a function.. The weather, too,! was all that could be desired," which was -.somewhat-of a change .from the sample's of summer weather we in Dunedin have been having of late. The company journeyed by rail to their destination, which was reached shortly after 10 a.m. •' The usual'picnic games and pastimes were then indulged in to the fullest e.xtent by old and young (not excepting* the creature cprnforts) until'about 2 p.m., when a capital' programme of sports was commenced and carried through in a most harmonious and satisfactory manner, eliciting some very keen competition in many of the items, and much merriment in some of the others. "After the programme was completed, -Mr W. G. Somerville, head of the firm, presented the prizes (all of which were of a .useful kind) to the suc-cessful-competitors. He expressed pleasure on his own behalf and also on behalf,of.the firm, "at being present to again take, part in the holiday-making of the employees,, and hoped that the same interest arid enthusiasm that had always been manifested in. the,.success of the picnic in the past would continue in the future.
