A.SECOND ATTACK DEEMED USELESS.
" • LONDON, January 28. There is'much uncertainty- as to whether Sir Charles Warren garrisoned Srion Kop after ' the engagement.
The' War Office has received General 'Buller's despatch on the engagements at Spion Kop.
The General says that Spion Kop was too large a position for the British garrison to hold, and that the water supply there was 'very deficient.
< When ' Brigadier-general Woodgate was wounded his successor in the command decided to abandon the position.
General Buller considers that a second attack on Spion Kop is useless, as the enemy's right an} too strong. The' Boers report that they surrounded a squadron of Major Bethune's Light Horse, whose casualties numbered 20, while 15 of the troop were taken prisoners.
