All the clubs in the association have entered, and the race is to bo rowed in a series of heats in Use boats' lent by the North-End and Dunedin Amateur Boating Clubs. The drawing fur the heats wns as follows:—First- heat: IJunsdin meets Otago, Port meets Queen's Drive, North-Mnd the bye. To enable the semi-final and final heats being rowed on the one day, the first heat between the Dunedin (the present holders of the cup) and the Otago was got-off last night. Tho water -war, perfect, and a good many spectator.! were present on the whajvos. Mr L. ii. Wilson, vice-president of the association, acted ns starter, and lost no time in despatching the crews on even terms. This order was maintained Tor half the distance, when the Dunedin gradually drew away and entered the wharves a, length ahead of their opponents. The latter spurted .gamely, but llie response of tho maroon and white was sufficient to maintain t!io advantage, winning a well rowed out race by a little over a length. Mr Murdoch Mac Lean, of Auckland, tho popular vice-president of the New Zealand Rowing Association, filled the position of judge; Mr Buttcrworlh aci'w as umpire. Nevertheless opportunity will bo found o[ presenting the two lnusicftl comedies—viz., the nmch-heard-of -A 'Irip to Chinatown" and "A Strainer in New York," which have practically, owing to their enormous success, constituted the repertoire during then- six mouths' visit to the colonies. The first-named will be presented on the first four, and the latter on the two final nights of the season.
