THE GAELIC SOCIETY.

The usual monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society, was held oil Wednesday night in the Oddfc-Uows' Kail. Stuart street. Notwithstanding tlhs commotion'in'the streets, pending the declaration of the poll, there was a largo atter.dahce, and the proceedings were thoroughly enjoyable. Mv Dugald IvrPherson occupied the Miair during the early part of the evening, but having then to attend another meeting, Mr Simon Chisholm was voted to the chair. Apologies for imsvoidable. absence were received from Chief tnins J. M'Millan-and D. Muiuo, also from Mr i&. Kae, choir conductor. 'The secretary (Mr..W. Mr Muhro's, remarks'. There was reason to believe that: the mismiderslanding was greatly exaggerated by ..their outside' friends, concluding that all'tue words reported had' reference •to the same 'incident. Such^wa3 by no means the case; altKoughyhi a report of half a dozen lines the' sent'ence'3"wfere necessarily in juxtaposition. The Gaelic' Society, by'virtue' of its constitution, took a special interests in the Highland regiments, but they none the less admired and respected all the other regiments of the British aririy and navy, and delighted in their achievements. He (the speaker) then referred to the soTerd;engagements in the South African campaign, in which the Highlanders had already taken a- distinguished .patt, and,the losses in killed.and wounded they unfortunately had sustained. ■;.';■..'... ...
