Gentlemen,—ln accordance, with request, I 4iave i made a. careful examination of the dredging claim on the Molyneux River at Coal Creek .lately taken up by your party, aiid now beg to report in manner following:-^- ' " The property is situated-on the Molyneux'River,, at the uioper end of Commissioners' Flat; immediately above the Coal' Creek claim, 'and*.one mile below" the Peasant Valley claim. . ' • ■ ■;'. .- "'■'- ■^ • Located as it is at the head of Mi alluvial flat and terminus of a long gorge, it is favourably situated as a catchment area fjg any travelling'auriferous wash; but at the same time the river current here is sufficiently rapid to afford all due assistance with regard to the 'disposal of tailings; - . .' ..-.'•- . • ' T'have surveyed the. claim in question, and*filid ithat it embraces over three-quarters of. On the river bank immediately below this-claim the, old Commissioners' Fiat Sluicing Company took out a deep, cut without reaching bottom; and immediately below this a-gain Messrs Haughton and Party are at present engaged sluicing on the terrace, and obtaining, I- am'told, very satisfactory results. , A considerable': amount of fossicking has also been •prosecuted" along the banks to' the water's .edge:,."'".'.' As Mr M'Kenzie: is 'a thoroughly .practical. miner, and is absolutely disinterested in the. claim, his reportvcan in.every way;be ielied upon. ■Mr JOHN WARREN, a very old resident of the .district, and a thoroughly practical miner, said he knew the ground very well (having worked on the. beaches for some tir.ie from 1863):'. He'and others lifted the wash- in buckets from the shallow parts of the river, and even in such a primitive fashion he asserts, they-made good wages.'
