The Premier, on being interviewed, said that- the Council's decision on the Commonwealth Bill was a surprise. He had thought'there was a majority in favour of the bill as amended by the Select committee. Had the motion been carried '* would have shown that the colony was ret adverse to federation, but that it only wanted amendments made that wer* V-> iportant to Western Australia, tat **■», portant to the other colonies. He wa, wot prepared to state what action he intended taking.
