(1?eom Ouk Own Cokmsspondektt.) LONDON, Seiitomber 29. woot; Messrs Balme-write me to-day saying that the course of the wool'market during the r,ast wi.ek has been eminently satisfactjry. Initial quotations for merinos have been well maintained, superior descriptions, both greasy anj secured, having somewhat'improved their" positions, and now stand a fulj 10 per cent above July rates. On the other hand, I learn that medium and inferior merino wool, though meeting with a strong demand, is not geneially dearer than it was last week. During the past few days, I am told by Messrs Balme, crossbred wool has been strengthened by free buying- on American account, the attention of this section of the trade being directed more particularly toward medium growths imo haired parcels fully maintain the rise of 15 per cent, established at the opening of the auctions, while a similar advance may be quoted for other grades, the lots which are purchased for shipment to the United States occasionally realising as much as 20 per cent in excess of last sales' closing prices. Scoured crossbreds are in very large supply, im d are reported as selling somewhat irregularly. The higher counts command' extreme quotations, but the medium and coarser grades, although well above last sales' level of prices, do not show such a full advance as is obtainable for the samevjmahties in greasy condition. Slipes sell on yerj-^milar lines to scoured produce, but short stapled coarse wools of Lincoln breed are somewhat difficult to move 1 A curtailment of the series has taken place n «, iv!.
