ABUSES-IN THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

(P«it United Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, November 3,

Mr Thomas. Mackenzie addressed a full meeting of -members of the Wellington Underwriters', , x Association 'this, afternoon on questions dealing with the handling and insurance of frozen meat. He went very fully into his subject; describing the abuses which had crept into the frozen meat trade at Home, and suggesting remedies for their removal. He thought the Insurance Association should be given the opportunity of grappling with ■ the difficulties, but;- failing unity of action on the part of the "Home people with the colony, he considered it imperative in the interests of the- industry that something should be done, and, reluctant as he was to see Government interference with private, enterprise, he felt the gravity of the position would warrant it. The tone of the meeting' was distinctly favourable to the general views expressed by Mr Mackenzie, and as to the necessity for remedial measures being adopted. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Mackenzie for his kindness in addressing the meeting, and for the information lie had imparted. Mr Mackenzie leaves for Dunedin on Satuy^.v evening.
