SOUTH DUNEDIN MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR.
Str-The Hon. John MacGregor in his article m your Saturday's issue prefers an indictment against the so-called great Liberal party, that as at present constituted, they are composed of the Liquor party, the unions, aud the Catholic party. Now, Sir, this is something of the combination we see working m this borough in the contest as to who shall occupy the mayoral chair of the South Dunechn Borough Council during the ensuinsr term. ' . B
Ihe Liquor party are opposed to Mr Fiddis's re-election because he is a total abstainer and prohibitionist, while bis opponent. Mr Chetwvsn, is the supporter of "the trade." The Catholic party are opposed to Mr Fiddis because, m the interest of the sanitary by-laws and the health of the residents of the borourfi he has^ succeeded in removing that abomination other councillors had tried in vain to abolish) that existed for years on the St I atricks Church property. And because he has done this the Catholic party have combined with the Liquor party,to give a block vote against him. \
Surely this is an unholy combination, that the other burgesses should, by their votes and influence, clearly and decisively defeat at the ballot' box on November 29.—1 am, etc November 6. " South Dunedin
