, There was a large gathering at the police station last evening of members of the police force to bid good-byo to Detective M'Grath, who leaves this afternoon for Wellington to take up the important position of chief detective there Advantage was taken of the occassion to present to Mrs M'Grath a substantial nurse of sovereigns subscribed by members of th»"no]ice force throughout Otago. The presentation was made by Chief Detective Campbell who referred to the many good qualities of Detective M'Grath, his ability as a detective, and the many services he had rendered while j-i Duuedin. His personal popularity among the members of the police force was shown by the fact that all had joined in subscribing the purse ot sovereigns which he handed over to Mrs M'Grath. Mr Bell, Detective Cooney, and Constable Dale endorsed the remarks made by Chief Detective Campbell. Detective M.Grath made a suitable reply on behalf of Mis, M'Grath. ~ '-..■.. t .
