MILLERS' HOURS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—As your correspondent " Honest Pay for Honest Work " is asking tor iniormation concerning the wages in the country mill I referred to in riiy last lettei, I will state the wages of some of the workers. At the time I am writing about, one of the men on the flour packer got £1 per week and the other 25s.per week, the last-named having been on ' for .some'years. The kiln men were getting 30s per week, and the man that- shot the wheat, etc., 365. These mentioned were some of the■ 12-liour men. The 8-hour men were the; lumpers,, and they received 30s. Three boys in the mill got 10s, 12s 6d, and 15s respectively. I may here state that previous to this two or three young chaps went on the packer at 12 hours a day for 15s per week, and two of them are to-day Salvation Army officers.' One young chap was put on to sew oatmeal bags at 12s 6d per week, and the' boss, finding that lie would have to give him a half-holiday in the week, through the boy, being under age, deducted Is per week ' from his wages. In all, I think there are about | 16 men and boys working at the mill. Three of the hands get over £2, four over 30s, and the: other nine range from 10s to 30s per 'Week. ; I think "Honest Pay for Honest Work's " request to know the wages paid in the city mills is very good, as it will let these'men I refer .to see what wages they! should get! Any of your readers desiring! further information can obtain it by writing i to '; O C," Albany street P. 0., Dunedin.—l am,' etc., ■ C. G.
