ROSLYN BOROUGH COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the Roslyn Borough Council,-'held last night, was attended by Ore A. C. Begg (in the chair), Wedderspoon, Sutherland, Matheson, Sim, Philp, Blackwoo'd, It. C. Wilson, Hunter, Davie, Blew,'and J. Wilson. The Mayor wrote ptnting he was unable to attend owing to ill-ness.—R-ecoived, with regret. ' Mrs Hill applied for a footpath in front of her house, as the water and slush from the road lodged up against her fence and damaged it.—lt was decided to accede to Mrs Hill's request. slr Robert Tllingworth, Kaikorai, applied to have the obstruction'which had been raised in Renfrew street removed.—The inspector was instructed to attend to the matter.
Mt Win.' Macddnald, " Littlebourne, complained of filth, being deposited on a place opposite' his section.—Referred to' the inEpeotor.
A number of ratepayers in Havvlhorndale petitioned tho council, to authorise the forming and metalling of Queen street', as oVing to iti being"' unsuitable for- traffic, they were greatly inconvenienced. —The council decided to reply, lhat they w ere not ii^'a position at piespnt to do'tho work. ' '
Mr Thos. Chalmer acknowledged receipt of tho council's letter granting him permission to erect a' fence encroaching 2ft on Michio street, and stated lhat the suggestion re line of bridge would lie'given effect to —Received. 1 'Mr Jns. Pollock asked for peimi^sion to lay a 4in pipe'across the footpath in Rose street, for the^ purpose of draining his section.— Granted, subject to inspectbr's' approval. Mr E. R. Brinsden, Half-way Bush, called attention to the dangerous state of the road bounding Mr Dakiell's property, Brcckville. —Received, the inspector reporting the load had been made safe in the meantime.
The Town Clerk, /Dunedin, wrote stating that the complaint of Mrs Rabbit with respeot to a nuisance existing in front of her property, caused by drainage from a stable flowing on to the Town Belt, had been referred to the Mayor, with power to take action to have the nuisance abated.—Received.
The Finance Committee recommended that the request of the Ocean Beach Domain Board for a contribution of £3 16s lid be granted; also, thatra payment-of £30 be made to the Charitable Aid Board, and £15 to the Hospital Board. The committee further recommended tho council to accept Mr Wyec's tender for grazing; to notify occupier of sections 6, 7, and 11 lhat unless arrearfc we:e paid at once, he would be suad ; and also that an account of the costs incurred in the matter of ,Jno. Campbell's claim for compensation be ' forwarded to the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tramway Company, such costs to amount to £4 18& The committee al<=o recommended that accounts amounting to £122 4s 2d be passed for payment, and reported that the overdraft stood at £845.—Adopted. ' The Works Committee, in their repoit, recommended, in^ reference to the City Council's letter as to the maintenance of the Beit roads, that a reply be sent to the effect that the City Council should keep in repair the road loading from the old cemetery past the Robin Rood quarry; also, that the Roslyn .Council had Jrpady agreed to bear half the < expense of asphalting and repairing the foot-' path on that road. With regard to the other roads through the Belt leading to Ros'yn, the council would deal with each cape on its merits. The inspector had been instructed to form a.iid einder'a path in front of Mr Henderson's house in Bishopscomt; also, to cinder tho north side footpath in King street, and to report cost of wooden kerbing on the soutlv side' 'of •■-the same street. Adopted.
The nightsoil contract was discussed at some length, and it was finally decided, on tho mo- ! tion of Cr Matheson, to write to Mr Ellis slating that if the work was not done to the satisfaction of the inspector between new and. the end of June, steps 'would be taken to cancel his contract and forfeit his deposit. It was decided to advertise: that the con-, tractor would be round every Monday to remove dust and ashes. Cr R. O. Wilson moved—"That in the event of the nightsoil contractor not eairying out his duties satisfactorily by the end of the month, the clerk- be authorised to invite fresh tenders without delay."—Carried. Cr Hunter moved —" That the footpath on the south side, of David street, Kirklitnd Hill, be cindered."—Carried. It was also decided to .spread a few ashes on footpaths in Pacific street and Broughton rod/i. Cr R. C. Wilsoi moved—" That the asphalt: ing in David street b© carried to the top of the hill.':'—-Agreed/to; Cr Sutherland moved—" That the resolution of the last meeting; authorising the removal, of the School street lamp, to the corner of' City road-arid Tay street be rescinded."— Carried. Cr- R. C.' Wilson gave notice to move at next .meeting^" That alamp bo placed at the corner of Ann and. William streets, Sunnyside. '
