VOLUNTEERS.

On Wednesday evening the Engineers held officer's inspection' at the Garrison Hall, when there was a good turn-out of all ranks. At the conolusion of the drill, it was announced that Lance-corporals A. Meekman and J. Jacobs, who-had sat the recent non-commissioned officers' examination had passed with highly satisfactory results in both infantry drill and signalling; work' and had thereby gained, sergeant's certificates of proficiency, which were handed out to them. On Tuesday evening a team from the East laien Rifles visited the Engineers' orderly room by invitation, when a cards and quoits match took place between, the, two corps. Later on, a musical programme was gone through, and, before separating, an invitation was extended to the Engineers to visit Mosgiel.
