Several rumours afloat giving the reasons for his retirement had been, circulated, but" they were entirely without foundation. During tho last few days-great pressure-had been brought to bear upon him by: friends, who had stood. loyal to him' during' his trying time, and he felt -that he owed a duty to ;them. ■ Consequently he- had; reconsidered Ins decision, and had made up his mind to again place himself in their .hands at the forthcoming, election..—.
