FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

The bi-monthly session of Dunedin District Lodge, p^To. 1, . 1.0. G.T., was held in . the South- Dunedin Societies' Hall on Wednesday evening. All the subordinate lodges affiliated were well represented. The district degree was conferred on 12 candidates. Bro. Don. Cameron, D.0.T., presided. Several recommendations ■from tho D.L. Executive, regarding matters appertaining,, to .the, good of the order, were adopted, among, them being:—" (1) Urging electoral deputies to see that all qualified persons are on_ the eleotoral roll, with the view of organising bur forces for the coming election (heartily supported by Bro.-R. Clark, D.E.S);. (2) the contemplated visit of Bro. J. Malms, R.W.G. Templar, in August next (from England), whose visit is eagerly looked forward to; (3) that Bro. D. C. Cameron,.' G;S., representative to International Supreme Lodge Session to be held in Toronto. (Canada), in June next, be heartily congratulated oh,lris election, and has the.best wishes for.a pleasant voyage and a safe return to ,i Dunedin—rßro. Cameron also to convey greetings from Dunedin Templars." Bro.' Cameron suitably replied, and gave; a short address. Other recommendations were ; adjourned until next meeting of district lodge in Juno, at Caversham. • A successful session was then closed by the D.C.T. with the usual ceremonies. ' . - '■ . ,

The Otago Lodge, U.A.0.D., held their fortnightly meeting, on the"l2th inst., P.A.: Bro. Hanseh, in the absence of A.D., Bro. Harrop, presiding. There was a very large attendance of visitors from sister lodges, and official visits were- also received from the Grand Lodge officers—namely, D.G.P. Bro. Menzies, D.V.P. Bro. Roberts, D.G.P. Bro. Jack, p.G.T. Bro,.Evans, and P.D.G.P. Bro.' Morrison,iM:H.R.—and also from D.P. Bro. Butler (No. 1 District), and D.P. Bro. Hutchison' (No. 19-District, of the Grand Lodge of Australia) , anff. from the Linden Lodge. In responding to the toast.of the District Grand Lodge, D.G.P. Bro. Menzies gave a very interesting and, instructive account of the great progress which the lodges under the jurisdiction of, the, District Grand Lodge are making since the District Grand Lodge had been formed. D.P's. Bros. Butler and Hutchison, also ■ responded.. Two candidates were proposed for initiation. After the ordinary business was carried out the lodge adjourned for the purposo; of entertaining the-visitors, when songs were given'by Bros. Hobbs. Moss, Sellars, Simms, Bartlett, Hansen, Daniels, and. Walker. Bro. Walsh ■ accompanied :on the', piano,, light refreshments were handed round, and a; very [enjoyable and . instructive evening was spent by the brethren present. Receipts, £19.
