Thefts.—William Monkley was charged with having, iv January, February, and March, at Utiku (Wanganui) received Is, ?.s, and Is, mi terms, requiring him to account for tho same, and with having converted the same to his own use.—Detective M'Grath asked for ,a remand lo Hnuterville.—Mr Ha-nlon objected on the ground that there was no warrant produced for accused's arrest.—Detective M'Grath suggested that accused bo remanded to appear at Duneclin on Saturday, as the warrant had been posted and would reach here by that day.—My Hanlon consented, and this course was adopted.-^—William Prince was charged with the theft, on the 17th inst., of 271b of lead, valued at 3s 4d, the property of A. and T. Bur),.—Accused asked for a, remand till next day, in order that he might get witnesses.—DoteetivcM'Grath consented, and the request was granted, bail being allowed, accused in £10, and one surely of £10.
destroying Trcos.—Artlms Gorlian and Teresa Gorhan, two children, wore charged with having, on the 10th inst., at Opoho without the permission of the City Council, carried away from a reserve a quantity of live wood.—Evidence was given by. Edwin Osten, corporation, gardeml!1.— His 'Worship said the mother of the children appeared to bo more to blame than the children themselves. He would fine the children 5s each, and costs 9s; this would punish the mother, who would have to pay the fine.—Mrs Gorhan said thi) case was brought out of spite, and as she was leaving the court she flourished her clenched fist in the face of tho witness Osten in a manner that bode him no good.
