FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

A summoned meeting of the Hope of Dum. edin, Tent No. 20, 1.0. R., was held in the lent! room, Moray place, on Monday evening.!. Chief Ruler Bro. Steve .Soufham prfefiid.d,| and there was a good attendance of members.! Bro. Spun- from South Australia was pre-j sent, and was given a cordial welcome by thei Oili. The quarterly balance sheet was read} by tho secretary, and showed that the tenti had mo.de good progress during the quarter;] Tho membership now stands at 96, and thei several funds as follows: —Sick fund, £1158 9s; contingent fund, £59 ss. The funeral fund is a, district fund. The balance sheet for the Juvenile Tent was also read, ■ and showed an increase in all the funds. The following officers were elected:—Auditor, Bro. Rosevcare; money steward, Bj-o. B. Dowland; writing steward, Bro. G-. Johnston. Bro. Rosevcare submitted the report and balance sheet from the Friendly Societies' Dispensary. He was thanked for his report; and re-elected as delegate. The secretary was instructed to write to the Bros. Watson, conveying the sympathy of the members with them in their bereavement. The tent was then closed by the usual ceremony.-' ; A meeting of tbo Ravensbourne Library Committee was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening, Mr TVaghdrn! in tho chair; all the members being present. The secretary was instructed to write to the widow and family of tho late Mr D. Blackie con-'----veying the sympathy of the members with them in their recent bereavement.' The treasurer-(Mr Harold) reported that he had received the Government subsidy of £5% 6d,----and that the concert given by the. seamen, of H.M.S. Mildura had left a balance in hand of £3 6s lOd. Mr Harold was unanimously, accorded a hearty vote of thanks. for ■ arranging the, concert and entertaining the performers. In returning thanks, he mentioned that the men wero so pleased with their treatment that they intended giving' a return concert when they came back.to Port Chalmers. Mr Waghorn (chairmari) and Mr ;D. Russell were accorded votes •of thanks for, services willingly rendered to the library for : many years past.
