FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

The annual meeting of tha South Otago District Lodge, 1.0.0. F., was field in Pioneer Rooms, Rattray street, on Thursday " last, when there was a fair attendance of ■members, D.D.G.M. Bro. J. Pattison in the chair, Several matters relating to the district were discussed,-and :lan apology received from G.M; Brb. Crichtonfor non-attendance, and thanking the distriot for congratulations'bestowed on him on his attaining the highest position in the order in New Zealand. The rules drawn up by the committee regarding the competition were approved, and it is hoped.that it will be the means of interesting yoiing members of the order. The election of officers for the term resulted as follows:—D.M., Bro. G. Springer; D.D.M., Bro. J. Hinton; secretary. Biro. F. Wilkinson; treasurer, P.G.M. Bro. T. Cole; trustees, P.G. Brol G. Springer.X P.G. Bro. D. M. Miller, and P.D.M. Bro. J. A. Walker. An invitation t. visit Linda Rebekah Lodge was accepted. • The Eope of Duncdin Lodge, No. 155, 1.0. G.T., held its usual weekly meeting in the Oddfellows' Hal], Rattray street, on Friday evening, Bro. D. Kane (0.T.) presiding. .There was a very good attendance of members and visitors. Sis. F. Clark, representative to the Grand Lodge, gave a very ,able report of the proceedings of that institution during the session' held at Christchureh at Easter, and was accorded a very hearty"vote of approval and thanks for her efforts. ' Bros. Rix (Alliance), Whale (Star of Freedom), and Clark spoke on the report, ail taking great exception to the appointment by the Grand Lodge of a Grand Lodge lecturer, thinking that under the present system that office was a failure. It was decided that next' Friday night be "pound night," to which all members of the order are given a cordial invitation: Harmony was then indulged in, Sis. IM'Farlane contributing a pianoforte solo, and Sis. K. Clark, Bros. M'Farlane and Davis songs. The vote of ■ thanks to the visitors, coupled with the name of Bro. MTarlano (Pioneer), wag responded to by Bro. M'Far-. lane,, on behalf of the various visitors present.
