BAR DINNER.
A Bar dinner was held on Saturday evening at the Grand Hotel, the chair being occupied by Mr AY. C. MacG regor, this year's president of the Law Societj*. the vice-chair being taken by the vice-president. (Mr J. A. Cook). There ivas a large, gathering, including Mr Justice Williams and Mr Justice Pennefather, Mr Hawkins, S.M., Mr C. C. Graham, and other guests. The judges, on responding for the visitors, were greeted with marked cordiality, and both were in a very happy vein. The other toasts were " The Queen and the Royal Family," ," The Navy, Army, and Volunteers" (proposed.by Mr Callan and responded to by Dr Milne) and "Tho Legislature" (proposed by the vicechairman and responded toby the Hon. J. MacGregor). Songs • were' contributed byMessrs Thornton, Stephens,' RiddeJl, Hanlon, D'Arey Haggitt, and Payne, and Mr D. M. Findlay gave a very entertaining recitation. An excellent meal was put on the table by Mr Philp, and the function generally was a distinct success. It will gratify our readers to learn that Mr Justice Williams, in the course of his remarks, said he felt the benefit of his recent holiday.
