Alpine.—The Mine Alanager reports.—ln th»; top stopes at the back of No. a level we aro.i still talcing out a few small blocks of stone, i but the quantity of quartz being won from here '• is very small. Tlie uprise at the back of No. 10 level has been, continued v/ilh four men, and is now up a, total height of 21ft. The rise is now in mullock. The intermediate above No. 11 level ha» been driven south for a distance of Gft. Th« . reef has widened out to Gft, but has gradually risen up, and it now lies only half way down - the face of the drive. Work has been temporarily suspended here in order to drive the in-' terniediate width to facilitate the work of trucking in the north end. Six feet also have been driven, and about Sin of stone of fair quality have been carried along. In the north extension ol Ko. 4 level the drive has been turned into the footwall, and a further distance of 10ft driven, making the total length of. trio level 200 ft. The reef has widened out to fully 10ft, and tho stone continues of good quality. Th»quantity of stone sent to the battery is 200 tons. Shotover Quartz Mining Company (No Liability).—Mr S. E. Brent supplies the following extract from the mine manager's report:—

"No change in the formation has occurred ia tlie machine level since last report. Sixteen foet have been driven, making the total length 637 ft.:' ,

The AdaiA's Flat correspondent of the Bruce Herald writes: —A dredge claim of about 60 acres has lately been taken up here smd surveyed. I understand the company is fully inado up (including three or four local shareholders), and it is the intention of the company to bo at work within four months, they havng bought a first-class dredge at present oh the Molyneux; and I believe it is to be delivered here, fitted up in good working order, and handed over to the company within the time, a'tated. '

Tho Matakanui correspondent of the Alexandra Herald writes:—The Undaunted and Matakanui Companies are making big headway with a plentiful supply of water, and are getting good returns. The latter washed up the boxes last week, after six clays' running, and realised the handsome return of 42oz.—Messrs Simes and Morgan also have a good supply of water, but the other claims are just about at a standstill. • ,- « Wo (Lake County Press) understand Messrs J. Williams and J. Partridge have struck some excellent-looking quartz in the' Maryborough mine, Macctown. However, it will take some time to properly open up the claim, and get it into good working order. • A good piece ol ground (says the Alexandra Herald) is owned by Messrs E. Kitto and Son, of Miller's Plat. The party have worked as much as they can by ground sluicing, but thewr' is still a good depth of- the richest and best wash unworked. The claim lies in front of the Golden Treasure No. 2 claim, and below the T'Htrick claim, and dips into the flat.- Tho party put down a shaft the other day, and for an hour and a-half's shovelling into the boxes by one man secured Gdwt 7gr. Pieces of gold wcifhing sdwt or 6chvt are commoa. This would be a splendid piece of ground for dredging, and 1 understand that Messrß Kittq and Son are willing to sell out owing to their inability to further work the claim by the o!* fashioned method of ground sluicing.
