AUCKLAND, April 14.

The Conciliation Board hajj given its recommendation on the carting trade dispute, and lias adjourned to the 27th inst. to see if all the employers will sign the agreement.

Mr W. Beehan has resigned the chairmanship of the Liberal Association" through ill-health.

A firo occurred in a Wellesley street west boarding-house, of 10 or 12 rooms, occupied by Mrs Gibfos. The house was gutted. Insurances : On the furniture, £50 in the Alliance; on the building (owned by Mr Heighten), £250 in the Royal. The adjacent boarding-house, occupied by James Kirk, also caught, but the fire was confined to two' room's^ The estimated damage is £100 to the building (which was insured for £400 in the Commercial Union). The furniture was insured for £300.

WELLINGTON, April 14.

Hugh Mitchell has been committed for trial at Masterton for an alleged breach of the Bankruptcy Act. It is understood that Sergeant Wright, who is now on his way to the colony in charge, of Joseph 'Myers, will be appointed chief detective in Wellington. Sergeant Wright was formerly in Dunedin, but has been for some years in the inspector's office here.

In the Divorce Court a decree absolute was granted in the eases of William 11. Feilder v. L. M. Feilder and C. F. Moller' v. L. R. Moller, both husbands' petitions. A decree nisi was granted in F. Whitton v. Edith Whitton and F. G. More (of Masterton); "James AT Holland v. Sarah Holland and;H. A. ShepVmrd; Henry Francis Towle v. AgtiesK. Towle and George Hall.
