Scarcity of water here means scarcity of gold from the alluvials, several being unable to work their claims at all.
Tho small pressure of water is insufficient to drive tho Morning Star Pelton wheel at its usual rate. Tho aerial trolly cannot ascend to tin? higher levels, so the men have been transferred to the lowel levels, which means dead work for a month or so without much gold. Lnst month tho cake was 160o?., and that from the Golden Site 270z. The Golden Site may yet have a happy time before it, although it has had many ups and downs. To ascertain the geological character of the place, with its slips and moves, direction and extent, the different ages and kinds of rock must now be seriously taken into consideration by the mine
The Alpha is doing very little at present, and is not paying many divis, I am sorry to sny.
The Tarawera and Cuttle Cove mines aro sending out in this boat samples to be tested.
The remainder of the boring gear for the Gulches coal mine has arrived, and tho coal seam will bo tested as early as convenient.
