WOMAN'S FRANCHISE LEAGUE.

At a meeting of the executive of the Women's Franchise League, held at the residence of the president, Mrs Hatton, the following resolutions were unanimously carried:. —

" 1. That as indirect taxation presses most heavily upon those least able to bear it, this executive consider that in any alteration of the tariff special attention should be given to the reduction of duties upon the necessaries of life. ■"■ 2. That the executive consider the present system of treating habitual drunkards is contrary to the principles of justice and common sense; that instead of sending them to gaol they should be confined in inebriate homes, the support of which should bo equitably adjusted between those who produce them and the relatives to whom they belong. "3. That no house for the sale of intoxicating d'inlts should be allowed to exist within 10 miles of any State farm." The above resolutions have been forwarded to the Premier, together with strongly emphasised expressions of obinion that, as soon as the old-age pension scheme shall bo properly established, an amending bill should be brought in by the Government making women eligible for the pension fivo years earlier than
