INTERVIEW WITH THE ADMIRAL.
On the 23rd March I had a long interview with'the admiral, who discussed the situation freely and read to me'?.the correspondence, that had passed between himself and the German consul' since his arrival here.: He also gave .me a resume of what had transpired at' the meeting- of the consuls and the naval officers on the flagship. This I have, practically anticipated in a former despatch; so"l,need not rep.eat.ithere.nqr .refer to it except to say tha. the correspondence and the events seemed to| me to more than justify the admiral in the action lie had taken. As to the gratuitous insult'offered to the admiral, and indirectly to the American nation through the declaration by Consul ,Rqso that, the admiral's:proclamation was untrue.' That'is a matter of which we may yet hear more. N<? doubt it will be directly referred to the German Government.
