SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The usual meeting'of Port Chalmers School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. The Visiting Committee reported that the school had been re-opened after the measles epidemic. The attendance was only fair, but was improving. The building- and grounds were in good order. The committee resolved to thank the gentlemen who had arranged the Garrison Hall concert for the successful manner in which every detail had been managed. ' The results in aid of school funds were regarded as satisfactory. The usual accounts wero passed for payment. The chairman and secretary were instructed to draw up tha report to be submitted at the annual meeting, to be held on the 24th inst. -

The usual monthly meeting of the NorthEast Valley School Committee took place on Tuesday evening, and was attended by Messrs Stout (chairman), Roberts, Thomson, Arthur, Strain,Denham, Drake, and Calder. The.Headmaster reported that the number on the Toll was: Boys 263, girls ,244; total 507. Averago attendance: Boys' 229,. girls 210; total 439. Highest attendance on any half-day: Boys 245, girls 228; total 473- Through measles and sickness, the number was considered small. The Visiting Committee reported satisfactorily. The Secretary submitted the balance sheet, which was approved. It showed a substantial balance for the new com-' mittbe to act on.

. The monthly meeting of the Union street School Committee, held bust night', was attended by Messrs G. "Fleury (chairman), P. D. Wilkins, .W. Bull, G. Horder, G. Lawrence, A. Megget, P. Aitken, and Gr. C. Israel. Various matters of routine.were dis-, posed of, and correspondence .with the Education Board was read with reference to distempering the walls of the school, and fencing tho school grounds. After consideration, it .was resolved to allow the matters to stand over to be dealt with by the incoming committee. The committee' then discussed the various items of the annual report; and appointed the chairman, secretary, and treasurer to complete the__same for the ■ annual meeting of householders.
