SALE OF THE AWAMOA STUD.
OAMARU, March 31.
The sale of the Awamoa stud of draught horses took place on Thursday, and was attended by a large number of buyers from all over the colony and from Australia, but the principal buyers came from the North Island. Buyers from Hawera secured the pick of the mares. Flora, the champion dry mare at Onmaru and Dunedin, was bought by Mr Goodson, Hawera, at 160gs, and the same pricjj was paid for Sylvia, which was secured by Mr Baxter, of Ais'.kland. Princess, another great prize-winner, was bought by Mr Hastie, of Hawera, at 145gs. Miss Donaldson 2nd went to Mr Alexander, of Hawera, at 115gs, and Cairngorn to the same buyer at 117gs. Flora 2nd went to Mr Blair, of the Taieri, at 81gs; Florence, to Mr Hessy. Wairarapa, at 89gs; Rowena to the Hon. George M'Lean, at 75gs. A large number of mares went at prices over 50gs. The stallion Crown Prince, the sire of most of the stock, was bought by Mr Reid, of Elderslie, at 325g5: Mr Reid, of Elderslie, also sold eight animals at the sale at exceptionally good prices, the averasre for the lot being £114. A two-year-old Hatfield colt brought 167gs, Mr Stewart, of Victoria, being the purchaser. The two two-year-old Hard Times colts fetched 115gs and 250gs respectively, the former going to Mr Baxter, of Auckland, and the latter to Mr Naylor, of Clyde. Emerald 10th, seven years old, went at 175gs to Mr Alexander, Hawera, and Laura Foley to Mr Goodson, Hawera, at 95gs. The sale of Mr Holmes's stock realised about £5000. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety and Co. and Messrs Fleming and Hedley.
