OTAGO MODENL YACHT CLUN.

The above club held its races at Lake Logan ■: on Saturday afternoon, and was favoured with good water and a fresh southerly breeze, which made the- sailing very interesting. Owing to : the Dunedin Engineers also being at the lake practising bridge-making, a. very largo crowil of spectators. were present. The first race was for the first-class models, ; which resulted as follows: —Mr D. Paierson'a I Meteor 1, Mr Maitland's Glance 2, Mr C. ■ Coster's 'Agatha 3/ The other starters were: I Moonbeam, Defender, and Lotus. On the beat ! up for the first time tho Glance led the Agatha ; and Meteor. The same order was maintained ; till the beat home for the last time, when the , Meteor closed up the big gap between herself ! and the leader, and eventually came on and i won a good race, the '97 champion being a close ! second. I In the special class the starters were Eclipse, •' Petrel, Au Itevoir, Toroi, Dragoon, and Dagi mar, and the race resulted: Mr 11. biirne3's ; Petrel 1, Mr Maitland's Dagmar 2, Mr H. j Divers's Au Revoir 3. The Dragoon led tho ' fleet on the run clown, but collided with one of : the posts, and lost considerably thereby. The ! Petrel was the first to have her sheets flattened iin for'the beat against the wind, and she ' simply sailed away from her opponents, which all appeared to bo over-canvassed. The Petrel at the finish came in a very easy winner, ihc others, however, made a very close aud interesting race for second and third places, i For the second-class models (-lft) the iollow- - ing started: Pirate, Snip, Waratah, Flirt, and Daisy. The race resulted: Mr D. Paterson's Pirate 1, Mr W. Martin's Snip 2, Mr F. ; Bi»gs's Waratah 3. This was one of the best races ever witnessed on the lake, ill the first round the Pirate led, closely followed by AVaratah and Snip. On the run down the latter two got on even terms with the leader, and in this position they set out in the beat to windward. Tho Pirate held a wonderfully close wind, while the others were being sailed much more freely, and consequently got through the water faster. However, it was hard to toil which was going to prove the winner until the crossing hue was met It was then found that the Pirate had got in by a few feet from the Snip, with the Waratah about the same distance behind the second boat.
