AUCKLAND, January 16.
A Native boy named Taumata was burned to death in a tent at Taupiri. He and another child were got out by their father, Te Rahike. The other child, though badly burned, is recovering. _ Louis G. M'Gill, a passenger by tne schooner Medora, when between Ohora and Cape Karakara, was knocked over by the boom. He was rescued promptly by a boat, and went to sleep in his berth, but subsequently died. At the inquest held at Vvhangaroa a verdict of accidental death was returned. ... CHRISTCHURCH.. January 16. At the inquest, or Christina Johncock. who died suddenly at Upawa last week, md which had been adjourned to-allow oi an analysis of the stomash bsing made, ■ the coroner said that enough strychnine nad been found in the body t> poison half a. dozen people. A verdict o: ihed from the effects of poison, administered by.her own hand while: temporarily insane" was re■UThe police have unearthed at Opawa the body of a baby which had evidently been dead, for ?six weeks. An inquest was held, at which"the coroner intimated'that tne infant was that of a certain young woman, and pending further inquiries an adjournment was n*essary. Adjourned accordingly without taking any evidence.
