geAin/ seed, and pkodtjce report;

Messrs Wm.'fi. Heynolds' and,Co'.,"merchants, report for- month 'ending U?th'Deconibev as foUo^rs;- '.; ...■.•'••'.■. ;".-7;'.;-i-." ''- ; ".:'.; Since ours of a mpnth agb, in:wmch"wo r<x ported' the 'weath&r as very; -vyet and cold,; we liave'disti/iotly turned the point "'into'summer, and^h'ave' experienced, bea-utifulj warm, growing weather,' and in the'greater number, if all, parts of Otago-and, Canterbury, the ■ crops.>of all kinds hayemade good and1 satisfactory progress. , .We think,- generally • upoiiklng, ■:■ if the weather continues good and,not too-dry, the hras vest-vvill be somewhat .later,thari-.-the average, Had at the .sara'e .time' mpre bountiful. -Meantime, therefore, as fai.as'.we ar&.able to,judge prospects, for the future look rosy^, . . .

.Wheat.—Wv. have very little of interest to report, as tho market remains "piracticallj uii'-" altered, unlesbijerhapstvalues generally can be considered 'somewhat vfaaker. ■ Prime Quality grain is \.ajid- we.tjhink. this tends to keep the general market highoi thati it otherwise would be. Prime'--quality We give ut 3s lOd lo 3s.lid; ordinarj.milling is m very poor request, owing to jsillers having « fau1 stock, of this on hand,-and it cannot .be'quoted at-over 3s Gd; While fowl feed is in exceptionally full supply and worth 23 8d pet bushel Of COlb (f.0.b., sacks m, net cash). - ,

■ Oats.—Sincopur lasti at time of i writing which, we reported. market- firmer,. values . have continued to recede slightly every week,.and today' wo find market still lower. Despite the repeated reports as 16 the unfavourable weather being experienced in miuiy parts' o( Australia, the demand has' not ■ been up lo expectations, mid holders ttre getting a little tired and more inclined to meet shippers.! Certainly stocks today are very light, and much, we think/will depend on how the Tnsmanian crop comes in sia to whether prices-advance^again"ihi3 Heason; Meantime we give to-day's quotations at 2s Id for prime milling Sutherland*; 2s for sparrowbills; good sound B grade, Is Hid; C grade, Is IOJd to Is lid per bushel of 401b (1.0.b., *acks m, net casli). ■ - ,

Barley.—There is oui very little business passing, and this grain haa weakened somewhat, with others. Choice malting.is still saleable at up to Bs; good, from 4s id. to 4s 8c'l; and milling, ot'which but little : i9 available, at 3s Bel per bushel of: 601b (f.o.b.,.sacks in, net

Grasa Boons.—-Though the season has not been a particularly good sowing one, stocks of ryegrasa arc light, and as large areas have been put down into groin this year we;do not think tho area under ryegrarss' will bo fbund to be anything like as. large as usual. :■ Many formers have put so muoh ot their land into grain that they, have difficulty., in finding-feed for their stock without saving ryegrass. We look to this market remaining firm at to-day's quotations, which we give as follows:—Heavy descriptions of old pasture (specially scarco),' 4s 9d,'271b eooci, 8s lOd to is; smaller weights, 3s Gil to 3s Bd, mid ian-dressed, 3s 3d per bushel of 201b (f.0.b., sacks 6d, -,iet cash). Cocksfoot.—As reported in'our last, demand-hits been somewhat disappointing, and the stocks on hand are fairly heavy, despite the'fact' $h.nt a fair quantity has gone to London recently. We see no reason, however, to alter our quotations, and repeao thoso oi la-st month—viz. • 181b seed, 4J,d; 15lb to XCIb need, id to>Jd (i.0.b., sacks extra). Clovers. —Keceut importations have bson rathoi1 heavier than . the average, owing, we think, to'.'thc.low. prices ruling. Holders at tho ijime' tirao do not seem'in any 'hurry to sell, i'ecling that there .lu'b-more chances of the market advancing than falling, and in coriscquorico \\'u can quote all lines firm at' (jba. to 75s for.' white L'loverj.-cowgrass'(colonial), up to 60s; imported us low as 43s'; rod, 435; and Alsyke, 67s Cd to'GOs. • '

Uhaif.—This market is, somewhat easier; stillthe demand is too good locally to. admit of exportation. We quote £3 2s Gd to £3 5s (ex rail), ■vhich is equal to £i (f.0.b., sficks in). Potatoes.—The supply coming forward continues light, consequently prices remain well up, first quality realising as high aa 13s to 14s, whilo old Derwcnts (very few of which sue offering) if in good condition are worth 8s Gd to bs liec cwt. Butter.—At the time we last reported tne market had suddenly advanced at Home, and prices fide inclined upward with it. To-day, though the market at Home still keeps up, there are indications' that it will not long do so, and locally.the market is a fraction easier. We quote prime factory at 9d per. lb (f.0.b., boxes in). . . '

Choose.—We have never before experienced so koon a demand for this article at this time of the year. It has been next to impossible to get factories to s<snd forward supplies fast enough, nnd many shippers have been compelled .to short ship every boat. ■ Owing to this scarcity large coloured has met with fair .demand nlso, which is rather exceptional for the Australian trade, and wo can quote same at 4M;.medium, did ; and loaf, 5d per lb (f.0.b., caEes'irj, net cii'sb), and at theso and about the.ee prices an excellent trade has been done.

: Bran.—Owing to it beinp; the summer season in'an has eased somewhat in price, and wo can quote it to-day .at £2 15s (f.0.b.). Pollard.-—Tho same remarks apply, and we :qiiqfce £3 10ft.(f.0.b.). .- • '-.

Oatmeal is perhaps a little easier, still, not sufficiently so,to enable no to reduce our quotation, which.we five nt £11 10s for bulk--£l3 for 7's; 25's (short.ton), £U 105;.., - -. Flour.;—We can quote to-day very, iow, a3 compared with the -previous portiou of this yeav-^viz.: 200's, £0 10s;- 100's, '£9 163; and 25's, £10 (f.0.b.).
