AUCKLAND, November 29. This afternoon his Excellency the Governor laid the foundation stone of Knox Church, Piirnell, in this presence of a large assemblage. The Countess of Ranfurly «as also present. His Excellency was received by a guard of honour, nnd the Nation;-,'; Anthem was sung. Miss Marjory Clark handed a handsome boncuiet to the Countess of Ranfurly. Mr Thomas Keir presented the Governor with a trowel. This evening, at St. Benedict's Hall, in'connection with St. Johns Ambulance Association, in's Excellency gave an address on the history of the order, and the Cnu:ites3 of Raniiirly presented Ahe medals and certificates to the successful candidates.
WELLINGTON, November 29. Some half dozen of the creditors of Joseph Myers met tq-day. The proceedings were of a priyate'nature, but it is understood that n statement Was made that the police 1 ad declined to take steps to bring the debtor back -to the colony unless the creditors guaranteed the expenses, which were estimated at about £500. Finally it was resolved to interview the Minister for Justice tomorrow, and urge that the Government should take the necessary steps to have Myers arrested and extradited. Mr Froyberg, ex-Government timber expert, has laid before the Government a simple and inexpensive plan by .which the great loss of life which now occurs among bush-fellers, and a great proportion of bush-felling accidents, can be prevented. The Government intend to give the plan a trial. Among the passengers by the Ruahine was Mr John Beaumont, whe is on the English directorate of the New Zealand Shipping Co. and also that of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. His visit is mainly on business. Tiie Premier left for Onehunga by tbo Tutanekai to-night to be present at the opening of the Auckland Exhibition on Thursday. , ■The Hinemoa sailed, for Nelson at 10.30 with the Hon. Mr Hall-Jones, who is to attend the Nelson A. and P. show tomorrow.. After calling.at Nelson the Plinemoa proceeds on her southern lighthouse trie.

News was received by .the late English mail that the Grand Lodge of Ireland has granted'fraternal-recognition of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. . -The Scottish Grand Lodge is now the (inly one of the supremo bodies _of the United Kingdom that has not yet acknowledged the rights of New Zealand Freemasons to self-govern-ment. •■..:.'• :■■
■.».'■'. KAIKOURA, November 29. Over 100 men engaged on the KaikouraCheviot ro'nd -works-have'been suddenly knocked off until tha end of March. The non-completion of the road leaves it ending nowhere. ' The' work was- expected to be finished in,about four weeks' time, supplying a fine connecting link with the main road along the coast between Blenheim and Christchurbh,. via Cheviot.
' CHRISTCHUECH, November 29. The Cn.ritei-bnr.vv College Board of Governors have appointed Mr Percy F. Rowland, 8.A.,0xpn., assistant muster at the Hoys' High School He is just now in Sydney. Mr A. Wall, appointed to the chair of English, leaves London' by the Gothic on December 22. ,_
