MEETINGS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.
Miss Devereux's pupils gave an entertainment last Saturday afternoon at View Bank Violin and Pianoforte School, Royal terrace,, Kew. The following programme was very skilfully rendered:—Piano solo,. "Fairy barque" (Smallwood), Miss Matilda M'Koelmie; violin solo, " Forget mo not - (Volti), Master Roland Orchiston; piano solo, ' I built a bridge of fancies" (Smallwood), Miss Ethel Lethbridge; violin Solo, "Irish airs" (Volti), Miss Bessie Walton; songs, "I trust you still" (Barnard), Mrs A. J. Morrison ; piano sclo, ■•" Scotch airs " Miss Maggie M'Kcclmie; violin solo, " Spanish dances" iDufaure), Master Willie Morrison; violin solo, "Norma" (Singelee), Miss May Walton; song, "Valley by the sea" (Adams), Mrs 11. C. Jones; violin solo, "11 Bacio (Leonard), Master Ernest Webb; violin duet, "When other, lips" (Volti), Misses Walton; piano solo, " Non o Vcr" (Mattei), Miss Dcvercux. The members of Loyal Unity Lodge, No. IG, I.O.O.I?., held an open harmony meetinc* on Monday, 21st inst., to celebrate the 600 th meeting of the lodge, and were gratified to find large numbers responding to their invitation, the hall ..being crowded. N.G. Bro. C. H. Brooks occupied the chair, and a lengthy programme was gone through, the efforts of one arid all apparently being thoroughly appreciated. The Grand Lodge officers—G.M. Bro. J. T. Higgins, JJ.G.M. Bro. G. Criehton, G.S. Bro. W. Keid, Pr.T. Bro. Alexander, and IUXG.M. Bro. J. Pattison—werD jiresont, 'besides numerous representatives from the various sister Rebekah lodges. During the evening the secretary (Bro. j. IT. Hinton) gave a concise but exhaustive vesumo o[ the career of the lodge since its formation. Opening on the 14th July, 1575, with 9.5, the lodge now has 120 financial members on its books, and the sum of £1070 12s has passed through its hands during that time. Reference was made to the late secretary (Bro. F. A. Hancock), to whose indefatigable efforts the lodge owed much of the progress il bad made. The Grand Master (Bro. J. T. Higgins) complimented and congratulated the lodge upon its wonderful progress, mentioning; that it was the fourth largest'lodge of the order in New Zealand. The first part of the programme included several selectior.3 upon a graphophone manipui Uteri by Bro: Gauit; instrumental selections Iby Bros. Lnlimer; songs by Sis. Wilkinson ("Barney O'Hea"), Bro". M'Peak ("Island of dreams "}. and Bro. Livingston {," The bonniest wee lnsa"); and a recitation ("The Baltimore Greys ") by Bro. Springer. The two last ileni3 arc deserving of special comment, both of them being heartily auphuided, an encore having to bo given in each case. Bro. Livingston sang "Robin Tnmsou's smiddy" and Bro. Springer " The fireman's story." ' During the interval refreshments were handed round, and the excellence of the viands provided was fully provedby the avidity with which they were consumed. Songs were 'also given by Sis. Durston. ("I trust' you still "), Bro. Payne v " Soldiers of the Queen "), and Bro. M'Kinlcy (" I lo' the lasses " and " Rather "1. A reading was very nicely given by Sis. Chapman, and a comic recitation ("Only a Pin ") by Bio. Bailey seu^all present into roars of laughter. Beir.r; ciicdred, he gave another-equally as humorous. Bro. M'Peak contributed " Maid of Athens" and " The spinning wheel," and Bro. Springer also gave a couple of vocal items. Tho toast of " The Grand Lodge" was responded to by D.G.M. Bro. G. Criehton in a few but well-diosen remarks, and the toast of " The Visiting Lodges " was suitably replied to by representatives of the various lodges. A most enjoyable evening was eventually brought to a close 1)y the singing of " Auld lang syno " with much enthusiasm.
