WANTED, A DOCTOR.

TO THE EDITOK.

Sm,—The letter in this morning's Times under the heading "Wanted, a Doctor is amusing to those who know the facts. Tlie letter shows to what lengths some people will go to show their enmily: to one who has done them a roal or fancied wrong. The facts of the case, are as follow:—Ior very many' years there has been a doctor resident in this district, ahd latterly two. The district being sparsely settled, and on the Whole hoalthy, one man could easily overtake the work under ordinary circumstances.^ Of late, however, the doctor at present resident in" Tapanui has had the audacity to take up with that muoh-abused section of the community, the prohibitionist., and the opposition party do not forget .'it, for if there is a chance lo oppose him they do. I know the distriot better than many, and I affirm that there is not room for two doctors. The present medico satisfies most people, who do not object to hio views, and I certainly doubt whether a new man Would gam one of his patients if he went there. I scaroely think that Dr Trotter would have Mt if he could havo soen his way to make a fair practice in the near future. I think I voioe the feelings of the community when I say that we will.not be a party to the persecution of any man simply because he holds extreme views on a subject of which much can be said on ono side and very little on the. other.—l am, etc., October 21
