AUCKLAND, October 25.

Professor Vigorous, one of the delegates of the French Music Sooiale, has just completed a tour of Africa, Australia, and New Zealand in the interests of the institution. His mission is to inquire into and collect data to lead to a solution of labour and social problems. Similar missions are being conducted in other parts of fche world. The information gathered will' be collected and deposited in the archives of the institution.

At the inquest on Stephens, the second victim of the Jubilee mine disaster, a verdict was returned that deceased was suffocated, but there was no evidence to show how the fire originated.

STRATFORD, October 25.

Mr Cheal, the Auckland Railway League delegate, addressed a largely attended meeting last evening, and at the close resolutions were carried in favour of the Government making fresh detailed surveys of both the Central and Stratford routes of the North Island Trunk railway, with a full report of the character of the country and the natural resources' of the land to be opened up by each route.
