THE GOVERNMENT—A FRAUD ON LABOUR.
.': TO THE EDITOR/. . . \V " Sm, —Tho people- of New Zealand, weiv justly proud of their Parliament in .passing Mr' Brodshaw's Factory Acti which provided that, no. females.were,to be allowed to. work more^ than .44 hours per week. The present.Labour members started to make amendments! for., working overtime. ■ This was, bad enough by ' all means, but our so-called Labour members., have gone one better and made the hours '48 per week. Both sides in .politics I hope will say'this is a disgrace on the Parliament of: New Zealand. . ' ','■ ... ~:. 9 Let the female workers understand what this, means, and they may expect it soon.; They^ will have to work four days of. 84 hours, one, day. of 9, and 4 hours on Saturday. The - amended act, will be found in every factory, and workroom in New Zealand. I may saythat the employers of labour are disgusted., with the extension of working time.' .-.,:; Premier Seddon and: our Labour, M.H.R.'a from this district thought the young girls were paid too high, and they decided to put, four hours extra on their backs to repay them for. their past political support;: and I. am told, it was a'Labour member from Dunedin who moved the amendment'at tho request of Mr. Seddon. MrPremier, What about.your Eight Hours Bill? Be honest to yourself, and call it 10—a Chinaman's.day's work. I have been waiting to hoar the Government political clackers say something ,on this question, or the Workers' Political Committee; but, oh no. They appear to be pups of the dumb dog: pack in Wellington.—l am, eto---October-24. , Matilda:, •
