NORTH-EAST VALLEY MAYORALTY.

The ordinary meeting of tho North-East Valley Borough Council was to have been held 'last evening, but there only being the M^?-ov (Mr Evans) and Crs Maeandrew, Longworth. and Seoones present, tho meeting lapsed {or want of a quorum. Advantage was taken of tha occasion by a deputation consisting of Mr It. Young and the three councillors named to present a numerously-signed requisition to tho Mayor (Mr Evans} asking him to stand for re-olection.' Mr Young-, in presenting the petition, dwelt upon the zeal Mr Evans had shown during the past 12 months in looking after the interests, not only of one particular part, but of tho whole of the borough. They did not think that their interests could be placed in better hands. Mr Evans sincerely thanked all those who had signed the requisition for their kind expressions of confidence in him. After having served them ns councillor for fiyo years and »s mayor during the past year, when there had been some little troubles to contend with, he was -gratified to find that his actions had met with approval, and that ho still retained their confidence. The requisition was signed Dy such a large number of ratepayers, and by ii number of members of the council,'that, in respouse, he had very groat pleasure in complying with the wish expressed that he should stand for the office of mayor for another term. He could promise them that if, elected it would be, a« in tho past, in the best interests, of tho borough. .
