'" The,inquest on the body of Wallace, recovered from the Jubilee mine, Paeroa, took place to-day^ The poor fellow must have been stupified by the fumes and clambered up to the top of the1 first set nearest the face. Tbe earth must have fallen in on him and buried.him completely, with the exception of portion of the right leg.. It appears the rescue party explored the spot at the time of the fire, but owing to the smoke and heat, and.no one suspecting that the missing man would have climbed over the set, tbe explorers left the spot unconscious that what they sought was so near. MASTERTON, October 24. The dead body of. Susannah Pain, a married woman, who was living on her own property at Mikimiki,. was found in a gully yesterday. She was subject to fits, but a-p----peared to be well wben last seen. CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. Mrs Moorhouse, who resided with her husband at Rangiora, died suddenly in a boarding-house here last night. Deceased was subject to fits, and seven months ago was under medical treatment for heart disease.
