WANTED, A DOCTOR.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I was much astonished at reading th» letter in your valuable paper under the head-, ing of "Wanted, a Doctor,"-signed "A Subscriber." As your correspondent does'not state the true facts of the case, I crave your. indulgence for a few lines. ■ ; ■ Dr Trotter came here about seven years ago. and was guaranteed £140 a year. 'After staying about six years, and, I suppose, not finding it paying, he went up to Ohristchurch about a year ago to act as " locum tenens" for Dr Meikle, who was going to the old country for six or eight months. At the end of this time Dr Trotter returned to Tapanui to find that most of his old patients had gone over to the other doctor, who has been established hero for 11 years, and he also found that his old medical committee could only get a guarantee for a much smaller amount than he had received before leaving for Christchurch. Dr Trotter then left for Kiverton, where he-now is. These few facts will show, that " A Subscriber " lias made a great mistake when he says there'is a splendid'opening here.for.a steady and respectable medical "practitioner; Dr, Trotter was all this, but he came and failed.—l am, etc., Tapanui, October 24. Resident. .
