I refer to her remarks re gambling at football matches. As a spectator I have been a constant attendant at most of the principal football matches and have had facilities of knowing all about the betting, and can assure yon that, beyond a modest couple oE drinks or cigars, it is not worth mentioning.— - I am, &c, . ■ - ..,.'. . —The title of colonel comes from a word almost the same in several languages, signifying a column. The colonel was so called because he led, or commanded, <a column. — In Austria the public executioner wears a pair of now white gloves every time he is called upon to carry out a capital senteace.-
