His many friends in Otago will be glad to hear of the well-doing of Captain J. Taylor, formerly, of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.'s fine ship Timaru, and now commanding one of Messrs P. Henderson and. Co.'s British and Burmese line of steamers .the Ava. Captain Taylor informs us he was about to leave Rangoon on July 16 for Liverpool and London. The disposition shown by foreigners' to pur- . chase old sailing vessels is .still apparently as | strong as ever, and almost-from week to week ' well-known merchantmen which have for years past, been trading xmder the British flag, are acquired by Norwegians, Russians, or Italians. : The latest, or one of the latest, sales to foreigners is that of the ship Dharwar, a noted Australian trader. She was built some 34 years since by Harland and Woolf, of Belfast, at a ' coat of £28,500, and has now been sold to Norwegians fot £3500. The iron ship Bc-ncleugh, well known ;.here, has also been sold to an, Italian Company for something like £4000.
