KAITUNA BOWLING CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Kaituna Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club was-held in Watson's
Hotol on Thursday evening, 14th inst. Mr A,
Mitedouald, president, occupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members ; and what was wanting-in numbers was made up
'or in enthusiasm
The report and balance sheet were read. These showed that although the club had not made anjr great progress there had beeu a moderate amount o£ success. There wan a slight' increase in the membership, and there was. every evidence that many more would join during the coming season. The green was in splendid order, and visitors from other parts of the coiony were very lavish. in their praise. During the season the club played six interclub matches, winning three and losing three. Mr H. W. Reid won the president's trophy, and Mr J. Sanders the vice-preeideut's. Messrs A. H. Crawford^ J. W. Smith, W. Henderson, and C. T. Paterson (skip) won the club's rink tournament,. •

Taylor; delegates to tbe association, Messrs Macdonald and Patarson ; Green Committee—Messrs Sneddon, F. Smith, and W. Watson ; Match Committee— Messrs Cook, Paterson, and Reid ; auditor, Mr W. Forrester.
A very hearty vote of thank* was accorded to the retiring president for his service? during the season, and to the ladies for their kinduesi in adding so substantially to the attractions oi the green by providing afternoon tea everj Saturday during the season. After the usual votes of thanks to tho retiring officers, toe meeting closed.
Since the meeting several gentlemen have notified their intention of joining the club, which promises well for the sucoesi of the club next season.

— A plan for rendering paper as tough as wood or leather has been recently introduced on' the Continent. It consists of mixing chloride of zinc with tha pulp in the course of manufacture. It has been found that. Iho greater the degree of concentration of the zinc solution the greater will be the toughness of the paper. .
