A BREACH IN THE SANDHILLS. TO THE EDITOR.

Sib,—lt may not be generally known that when tha Government of the day started to erect f.ho central battery I gave notice that if they disturbed the vegetation of tha Sandhill* and caused any damage to my property I wonld hold tbem responsible. It is many years ago, but my claim against them, still holds good, for their reply to ma was—We will strengthen the Sandhills instead of weakening them. But, alas f have they done so ? No ! But as I have received no damage by the water coming in I can only offer to. the Ocean Beach Domain Board a scheme for improving and (^preventing the water from agbiu coming in. The cost will be trifling. My plans are tlisse : To fill some hundreds of bags of sand, tar them, and lay them, say, 20ft wide and 6ft high. I have seen a beach five miles long »nd the tide coming and going four miles out. This beach was protected in the manner described, Now I know it would act well on the Ocean Beach, because the water that comes in is not very rapid, and, besides, the work can be carried out by the artillery men, who, I think, would be euly too glad to have some employment found for them. By insarting this you will oblige.—l am, &c.,
