SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

— ♦ The monthly meeting of the Macandrew road School Committee was held on Monday night. Mr Beimett, head master, reported that the average attendance daring the past j month was: Boys, 204--5; girls, 196-2 ;—total, 4007. The average number on the roll for the same period was : Boys, 238 ; girls, 218 ; — , total, 456. Mestra Todd, Somerville, and Milburn were appointed a Holiday Committee, Mesßrs Tarerner, Somervillo, and Scott, a Works Committee; the Visiting Committee to be two of the members each month in turn. Messrs Devlin and Milburn were appointed delegates to the School Committees' Conference, and Mr M'Wattwas re-engaged as janitor. It was resolved to award prizes for regular attendance ab the end of the year, and the head master wag instructed, to notify the children to this effect.^ The head master's residence being in an extremely bad state of repair, Messrs Scott and Devlin were deputed to wait on the board in reference to the matter. The committee diecusaed the question of a gymnasium, and unanimously resolved to call a public meeting at an early date to consider the matter :of raising the necessary means to build one. Monday nights not being suitable, the night of meeting was fixed for the first Wednesday in each, month in the future. Hunter had the honour of completing his ! apprenticeship as a pnpil teacher, not only by the attainment of hi« B.A. degree, bnt ■ also by the attainment, of a senior scholarship. Miss Anne Bauchop, a dux of the school, had gained her B;A. degree »nd t-he John Tinline scholarship as well. The Visiting Coin- j mittee reported having attended _td several mstters of urgency, and submitted a list of details tkat required attention. Other matters of importance were referred to the Visiting Committee to deal with. The janitor was instructed to have al! the walls in rooms swept down as noon as possible. Complaints having reached . the committee re excess of; home work, it was resolved, that the secretary be instructed to call the rector* attention to the board's regulations on the subject.
