DESERTING THE GOVERNMENT.

(Per Unitud I'eess Association.) Palmerston North, May 12. Speaking at Aahurnt !;»(■ night, Mr Fred Pirani, M.H.R, said th«t he would nofc support continuance iv office of tho present Government. He condemned Ihe'r administration, personal extravagance, and attempts to .injure the education system and the judicial bench and to corrupt the electorates and electors.

(From Our Own Cohkkspondent.) Wellington, May 12. The announcement that, Mr Piraui had formally declared the discontinuance of his support: to the present Administration has ' created a very lively interest in political circles. Borne people regard Mr Pirani'* speech as a political ijluuge, while othsra (>.->« iv it the immediate brenk-Up of the "Jjoffc Wing" «leaient arid the redistribution of political influence. llj is more probable that the situation for Blr Pirani had become intolerable, the Premier bating rnsolved to crush him out of politics by inviting a relative of bis own to fctaud for the seat, and the Opposition likely to adopt a uiau of their own choosing who was sot only popular but deservedly influential ju the district. Thfi political maua seemed drifting from th* prgnsnt Administration.. What immediate effect the secession of Hr Pirani may have it would be premature to stata. Mr Pirani wjll have much to say on his change of front during the coming session.
