OTAGO CHESS CLUB.

At the annual meeting.of the Otago• Ches*' Club Mr Balk, who presided, in maying the adoption of .the .report and. balance sheet, reviewed the work of the year, and said the club had the premiership as regards rooms and membership among chess clubs in th( colony, and it rested with members totake first place inplay. Instruction classes had ,been sue« cessfnlly conducted, and it was hoped would b» continued. After referring to the loss of Mr ' Mellor from their ranks, he mentioned that the roll of lady members continued to grow. ' . ; Mr, T. Johnstoke ;(treasurer) said "that the' I receipts fell short of those of the previous year by £11,-entirely through, inability: to sublet the rooms. The clear assets ■ amaunted to £6S odd. The outstanding subscriptions amounted to 2s, and he urges members to assist the treasurer by paying promptly.
